Guided Practice Root Chakra
Black Obsidian Protection Practice
A grounding practice for feeling steady, safe, and shielded, held by volcanic black obsidian.
The guided meditation is on its way
You can begin the practice below today. The video will appear right here once it's ready.
Black obsidian is volcanic glass, born when molten lava cools almost instantly. In crystal traditions it's one of the most cherished protection stones, associated with the root chakra and with grounding. This practice uses your sachet to feel your feet on the earth and set clear energetic boundaries.
Inside your sachet
Raw black obsidian
Volcanic glass, traditionally used for grounding and energetic protection; associated with the root chakra.
The practice
Step 1: Settle in
Find a quiet spot where you won't be interrupted for ten minutes. Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor, or lie down if that feels better today.
Step 2: Hold your sachet
Rest the sachet in your open palms, or place it gently over your lap, or hold it low near your hips. Notice its weight, the texture of the cloth, and the scent of the herbs inside.
Step 3: Breathe
Close your eyes. Breathe in slowly for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for six. Repeat this seven times, letting each exhale soften your shoulders and jaw.
Step 4: Visualize
Bring your attention to the base of your spine and the soles of your feet, and imagine roots reaching from them deep into the earth. Picture a soft warm, earthy light gathering around the black obsidian and spreading outward until it surrounds you completely.
Step 5: Speak your affirmation
Say your affirmation aloud three times, slowly: "I am grounded, I am safe, and I release what is not mine to carry." Let the words settle into your body before moving on.
Step 6: Close the practice
Take one more deep breath, open your eyes, and place your sachet where you'll see or carry it today. Return to this practice whenever you need to come back to yourself.
Your affirmation
“I am grounded, I am safe, and I release what is not mine to carry.”
Caring for your sachet
Keep your sachet somewhere it can quietly do its work: under your pillow, in a bag you carry every day, on your altar, or near your front door.
Every new moon, hold the sachet in both hands, breathe slowly, and restate your intention. If you'd like to refresh it, leave it in moonlight overnight or pass it gently through the smoke of sage or palo santo.
When the herbs lose their scent, return them to the earth with gratitude. Keep the stone; it's yours to carry into the next practice.
