The Pisces Lunar Eclipse: A Gentle Release Ritual (and Why Not to Force It)
Tonight's blood moon in Pisces is a threshold for letting go, not for forcing intentions. Here's what's happening in the sky, what an eclipse asks of you, and a soft release ritual to hold it.

Tonight the Moon rises full, and then it begins to disappear. Not all at once, and not into ordinary dark. A lunar eclipse turns the Moon a deep, coppery red, and for those of us who work with energy, it turns the mood inward too. This is a night for setting things down, not picking new ones up.
What's Happening Tonight
The night of August 27 into the early hours of August 28, the full Moon in Pisces passes into Earth's shadow. This is a deep partial lunar eclipse, with roughly 96% of the Moon swallowed at its peak, a sliver of ordinary moonlight left along one edge and the rest gone coppery. That red is why people call it a blood moon, and it's the same reason a sunrise glows: the only light reaching the Moon has bent through the whole ring of Earth's atmosphere first, filtered to its warmest tones.
It's visible across the United States, weather permitting, and worth stepping outside for. This eclipse is also the lunar partner to the total solar eclipse of August 12. Eclipses travel in pairs, a new moon and a full moon about two weeks apart, and this Pisces full moon closes the pair that opened earlier in the month.
What a Lunar Eclipse Means Energetically
A full moon is already a culmination, the point in the monthly cycle where things come to light and come to a head. A lunar eclipse is that same energy turned up. It's a heightened, more emotional full moon, a threshold where something reaches its natural end so that something else can begin.
The old association with eclipses is release: endings, revelations, the emotional truth that finally surfaces after you've been managing around it. And this one lands in Pisces, the sign of intuition, dreams, compassion, and dissolving boundaries. Under a Pisces eclipse, feelings run close to the surface. Old grief can resurface. So can clarity you've been avoiding.
If you feel this strongly tonight, trust it. In our work energy is not a metaphor, and these charged windows are felt as real by the people who practice with them. Tender emotion, vivid dreams, a pull toward water or solitude: that isn't you being fragile. It's the season doing exactly what it does.
Why Not to Force It
Here is the part most eclipse content gets wrong, and it's the whole point of this post.
An eclipse is not the time to set big intentions, launch the plan, make the major decision, or push hard on manifestation. That's the mature astrological read, and it runs opposite to the "supercharge your goals" advice that floods every feed this time of year. Eclipse energy is fast, unpredictable, and often revealing, and the Moon itself is hidden. This is not a night for grasping at what you can't yet see.
So we treat an eclipse as a time to let go, rest, and ground. You release rather than reach. You soften rather than strive. If your instinct tonight is to do something big, the practice is often to do less, and to be kinder to yourself than usual.
The fresh-start work has its own season, and it's close. A companion new moon in Virgo arrives September 10, the doorway built for clear, practical intention-setting. Let tonight be the exhale; the inhale is coming.
A Gentle Release and Grounding Ritual
Twenty quiet minutes, a room where nothing is chasing you. This is soft on purpose.
1. Arrive with water. Pisces is a water sign, so let water hold the ritual. Wash your hands slowly and warmly, or hold a glass of water while you settle, or take a few minutes near a bath. Three slow breaths, the exhale longer than the inhale, until your body understands it can stop bracing.
2. Name what you're ready to release. One thing, not a list. A resentment you've been carrying, a story about yourself that's gone stale, a boundary you keep letting slip, an illusion you're finally ready to see through. Say it once, out loud or on paper: I'm ready to set this down. You don't have to know how it leaves. Naming it is the work tonight.
3. Soften with intuition. Bring a little attention to the space between your brows, the seat of intuition and inner knowing. The Cosmic Intuitive, our Third Eye blend of frankincense and lavender in an organic castor oil base, rolled at the brow and the back of the neck, suits a Pisces night: frankincense to steady the mind, lavender to quiet it. Let the scent land, and let whatever surfaces simply surface. You're listening, not fixing.
4. Open to letting go. At the crown and the back of the neck, The Divine Gateway, sandalwood and myrrh in the same castor oil base, holds the note of release and connection, the part of you that can unclench and trust. Each blend is Energy Healed with Karuna Reiki and Reiki by Dr. Mansi Vira. Breathe here for a moment and imagine the thing you named loosening its hold, the way the shadow will loosen off the Moon by morning.
5. Ground yourself back down. Eclipses can leave you feeling untethered, so don't skip this. Roll The Rooted Soul, vetiver and cedarwood, at the soles of your feet, and feel your weight return to the floor. Drink your water and come back into your body before you carry on.
Then rest. Truly. Let the evening be small.
Dr. Mansi's take: The nights I've felt an eclipse most are the ones I stopped trying to steer. Release is not weakness or giving up. It's making room. Set down what's ready to go, ground yourself, sleep, and let the Virgo new moon be where you begin again.
Holding It Gently
If tonight stirs something up, be patient with yourself. Healing keeps its own time, not ours, and these are tools for reflection and self-care rather than anything that treats or cures. For more of this rhythm, our Lion's Gate posts trace the summer's earlier thresholds and our holistic wellness guide sets the wider picture. The full collection is where these rituals live.
Whatever you set down tonight, may it leave gently, and may you be soft with yourself while it goes.
