Crown Chakra Healing: Signs of Imbalance and How to Find Your Way Back to Meaning
A naturopathic doctor's guide to crown chakra healing: signs of a blocked Sahasrara, what disconnects us from meaning, and practices to come back.

You built the life. The one from the list. The job is good, the people are good, the apartment gets afternoon light. And then one ordinary Tuesday, standing at the sink with a plate in your hand, something quiet asks: is this it?
Nothing is wrong. That's the strange part. You can't point at the problem, which makes it feel ungrateful to even name. But there's a flatness underneath the days, like watching your own life through glass. You do the things, and they don't reach you.
If that's familiar, your Crown Chakra may be asking for attention. In years of naturopathic and energy-healing practice, our founder, Dr. Mansi Vira, a Naturopathic Doctor, Reiki Master, and Karuna Reiki Practitioner, has heard this described a hundred different ways by people who all thought they were the only one. Crown chakra healing is the work of getting the sound back on. Not adding anything to your life. Reconnecting to the one you already have.
Let's walk through what the Crown Chakra is, how to recognize when it's out of balance, what pulls us away from it, and the practices that bring us back.
What Is the Crown Chakra?
The Crown Chakra, known in Sanskrit as Sahasrara (meaning "thousand-petaled"), is the seventh and highest of your main energy centers. It sits at the very top of your head, and it's associated with the color violet and with pure consciousness rather than any physical element.
Let's be clear about what this is and isn't, because Sahasrara collects more mystique than the rest of the system combined. Working with your Crown will not deliver enlightenment, and we would never promise you that. Nobody can sell you that. What Crown work actually does is quieter and more useful: it restores your sense of connection to something larger than your to-do list. Call it spirit, call it life, call it the plain fact that you're part of a world that was here before you and continues after. This center governs meaning, purpose, and the felt experience of belonging to something. Not belief. Experience.
When your Crown Chakra is balanced, it usually shows up like this:
- Your life feels like it means something, even on unremarkable days
- You can be still without immediately reaching for your phone
- You hold your own problems with some perspective rather than being swallowed by them
- Wonder still finds you: a sky, a piece of music, someone's face
- You trust that things are unfolding, even when you can't see how
Sahasrara is associated with the top of the head, the brain, the nervous system, and the pineal gland. Where the Root anchors you to the earth, the Crown opens you to everything above and beyond it. The two are the bookends of the whole system, and our guide to essential oils for each chakra maps everything in between.
Signs of Crown Chakra Imbalance
Here's what makes a crown chakra blocked state so easy to miss: it doesn't hurt. It hollows. And it goes two very different directions.
The first is shut-down. The spiritual part of you goes quiet, and you get on with things. Efficient, functional, a little grey. The second looks like the opposite and isn't: floating off entirely, living in the spiritual and skipping the human. That's sometimes called spiritual bypassing, and it's when someone uses meditation, mantras, or "everything happens for a reason" to avoid an unpaid bill, a hard conversation, or their own grief. Both are the same imbalance. One version won't come up; the other won't come down.
Physical Signs
The Crown's territory is the top of the head and the nervous system, and the body tends to hold it there:
- A dull pressure or tightness across the top of the skull
- Sensitivity to light and noise that wasn't there before
- Sleep that comes and goes without ever feeling like rest
- A wired, humming exhaustion, tired in the body and unable to stop
- A vague sense of being slightly outside your own body, especially in busy places
Emotional and Spiritual Signs
This is where most people first notice something has gone quiet:
- Existential flatness, the "is this it?" feeling at the end of good days
- Loneliness that doesn't lift in a room full of people who love you
- Cynicism as a reflex, especially toward anything sincere
- Losing the thread of why you're doing what you're doing
- Nothing landing: not the vacation, not the promotion, not the good news
- Or, at the other pole, floating above your life while the practical parts quietly fall apart
If several of those landed, please don't read it as evidence that you're broken or ungrateful. Read it as information. Something in you is asking to be connected to something. That's a healthy request, and it's exactly what crown chakra healing tends to.
What Causes Crown Chakra Imbalance?
Understanding the why is what makes the practices make sense. A few patterns come up again and again.
- Constant striving. The next goal, the next milestone, the next optimization. Achievement is a real pleasure, but it's also the most socially acceptable way to never arrive. If your worth is always one accomplishment away, there's no moment where you simply are, and the Crown lives in exactly that moment.
- A life with no unstructured time in it. Meaning tends to show up in gaps: on walks, in the shower, staring out a window. Fill every gap with a podcast and the gaps stop producing anything.
- Disconnection from meaning itself. Maybe a faith you left and never replaced. Maybe a life built on someone else's blueprint. Maybe just years of doing what was next without asking what it was for.
- Grief and loss. When something that held your world together comes apart, the Crown often goes offline first. It's protective. It's also lonely.
- Cynicism learned honestly. A lot of us got burned by people selling certainty, and pulled the shutter down on sincerity altogether. Understandable. Expensive.
There's a connection worth naming here, and it's the whole shape of this series. The crown of a tree reaches only as high as its roots go deep. When your Root is unsettled, when your body doesn't feel safe or your bills are frightening, the Crown cannot open, and it shouldn't. A nervous system in survival mode has no business contemplating the infinite. If the ground under you feels thin right now, start there instead; our guide to root chakra healing is the better companion for that season, and this post will still be here.
Dr. Mansi's take: In my practice, the people who feel most disconnected are almost never the ones who need to do more. They're the ones who have never once been still without a purpose attached to it. I ask them to sit for ten minutes and accomplish nothing, and it's the hardest homework I give.
Practices for Crown Chakra Healing
None of this requires belief, training, or a retreat. Start with the first one, honestly, before anything else on this list.
1. Do One Thing With No Purpose
Ten minutes. Sit on the back step, or lie on the floor, or stand at the window and watch the street. No podcast, no phone, no learning, no improving. You're not meditating, and you're not supposed to reach anything. The point is to be a person who exists without producing something, even briefly, because that's the muscle that atrophied. It will feel useless and slightly unbearable at first. Stay anyway. This costs nothing and it's the most important thing on this page.
2. Anchor With a Crown Oil Ritual
This is where plant medicine becomes a daily anchor. Our Divine Gateway Crown Chakra oil roller is formulated for exactly this work. It blends sandalwood and myrrh in a base of organic cold-pressed castor oil, delivered through a smooth stainless steel roller ball, and each batch is Energy Healed with Karuna Reiki and Reiki by Dr. Mansi.
Every element is chosen with intention. Sandalwood has been burned in temples across India for thousands of years for one practical reason: it quiets a busy mind and makes stillness feel less like a chore. Myrrh is old, resinous, and steadying, carried through millennia of sacred ritual, and it lends a sense of reverence that's hard to manufacture on your own at 7am. The castor oil base isn't a filler. Rich in ricinoleic acid at roughly 90 percent, it penetrates deeply, supports lymphatic flow, and carries the essential oils further than a lighter carrier would. There's no stone in the roller, just steel and oil, cool on the skin.
To use it: roll gently along the crown of your head, at your hairline, and behind your ears. Breathe in. Then sit for a few minutes without asking the practice to do anything for you. That last part is not a throwaway instruction. A ritual you perform in order to get results is just another task on the list. (For how this blend sits alongside the other six, our complete guide to essential oils for each chakra walks the full map.)
3. Carry the Connection With You
A morning ritual helps, but the flatness usually arrives mid-afternoon. The Bracelet of Connection is a good companion for those hours. It pairs genuine amethyst and fluorite, stones long associated with spiritual clarity and calm, with clear quartz and a porous lava stone. Add a drop of your Divine Gateway oil to the lava stone in the morning and the scent stays at your pulse all day, a small physical reminder to look up from the screen. If you'd like the oil and the bracelet together, they're available as the matching Collection.
4. Meditate on Violet Light
Sit comfortably and bring your attention to the top of your head. Picture a soft violet light resting just above you, about the size of an open hand. With each exhale, let it settle a little closer, until the boundary between you and it stops being interesting. Don't chase a vision. Don't grade the session. If your mind wanders off to your inbox forty times, that's forty chances to come back—and the coming back is the practice. Five minutes is genuinely enough.
5. Let a Card Ask You Something
Meaning is hard to summon on demand, but it answers a good question. The Divine Gateway: Crown Chakra Mini Deck is built for that: pull one card in the morning, read it, and let it sit with you through the day rather than solving it on the spot. The card isn't predicting anything. It's a prompt, and what you notice in response to it is yours.
6. Speak Words That Open the Top of Your Head
The Crown responds to permission, never to force. Choose one and return to it daily, ideally while you apply your oil:
- "I am part of something larger than myself."
- "I don't have to earn my place here."
- "I can be still without accomplishing anything."
- "Meaning finds me when I stop chasing it."
Meaning Comes Back Slowly
Here's the honest part, and we'd rather say it than sell around it. Meaning doesn't return in a flash. There is no card, no oil, no eight-minute video that cracks you open on a Wednesday and hands you your purpose. Anyone selling you a breakthrough is selling you something.
What actually happens is smaller and slower. You sit on the step for ten minutes and nothing occurs. You do it again. Somewhere in the third week, you catch yourself noticing the light on a building, and it lands—the way things used to land. Then it goes away again. Then it comes back a little easier. Healing is not linear, and that's not failure; that's the shape of the thing.
Please hold this gently, too: these tools support your wellbeing and your sense of connection, but they aren't a substitute for care. If the flatness has become heaviness, if it's lasted months, or if getting through the day has started to feel like a lot, that deserves real support. Walk this path alongside your healthcare provider.
And notice what the Crown asks of you: not to rise above your life, but to be more fully inside it. The disconnection and the floating are the same wound. Both of them end the same way—with your feet on the floor and your attention here.
If you're ready to begin, the Divine Gateway Crown Chakra oil roller is a beautiful first step. And if you've walked this series from the Root all the way up, this completes the seven; the 7 Chakra Oil Set holds the whole system in one place, root to crown, ground to sky.
